Called To Be The Light
Jan 18, 2023For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10
Life as a Christian is not a spectator sport. God created each person on the earth for a unique role. You were not created to walk through your days breathing, eating and just being. You were created by God before you were even born for a special role. You have been given special abilities and talents to use in his kingdom. He prepared you beforehand to serve others with your life.
I keep a small lighthouse on my desk as a reminder that my purpose in life is to be the light of Christ for all of those I encounter during the day. Lighthouses are built on the shore so that sailors can see their way safely into the harbor. They are often found in areas of danger where rocks can be hidden under the surface of the water causing shipwrecks. The bright light shining in the darkness is a welcome sight as it guides the sailors home where they belong. I can be that same welcoming light for my husband, my children, my friends and even the strangers I meet each day. When I am filled with the light of Christ, then I can share that light with others. Being the light of Christ is the purpose of each and every Christian. It is from that light that you are able to follow your calling in other ways.
It is easy to look at others who are serving God in BIG ways and then downplay your role. Each person is called to be a light of Christ. The light of Christ can be bright and magnificent like a crystal chandelier or like a simple night light. Both give off light in the darkness. Both are essential and fill a unique need. God doesn’t rank us in order of importance. God endowed you with a special set of gifts and talents to share with others. By sharing these gifts you are ministering to the Body of Christ. Your gifts bring light into someone else’s darkness.
Go be a light for Christ! Use your unique gifts to serve others.
